While Chair of the Dothan Area Chamber, Mr. Schmitz organized, funded, and participated in the first-ever local entrepreneurial seminars for minorities.  The seminars spanned a 3-year period.

Recognized the continued effort to adopt several local schools each year.

 

Celebration of Diversity Award

Recognized by the NAACP and Alabama Governor Bob Riley, Mr. Schmitz was recognized for his work with Hawk Houston Boys & Girls Club (a refuge for children living in the local housing project).  Mr. Schmitz retired the unpaid bills and provided two years funding.

 

Greater Beulah Angel Award

Funded playground equipment for three parks in low-socioeconomic neighborhoods.

Recognition for Mr. Schmitz’s involvement with Post Adoption.  His contributions included speaking engagements, guidance to leadership, and funding.

Adopted school and provided teacher breakfasts and luncheons.

Recognized support/funding for community events (i.e., fire escape training for children).

Presented by the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, this award recognized Mr. Schmitz’s leadership in a city-wide campaign against illiteracy.

 

Wiregrass Children’s Home 3,000-Mile Charity Bike Ride

Organized and road bicycle across America with three other businessmen.
Raised over $100,000.


80-Mile Charity Walk 

2007
Organized and walked 80 miles with other participants.
Gained five corporate sponsors and raised over $25,000.
